My name is Miss Young and I will be teaching 6th grade English Language Arts this year in room 216 at Fredericktown Middle School. I'm grateful to have an amazing opportunity at such a wonderful school! I grew up outside of Cleveland and attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio for Middle Childhood Education, focusing on Language Arts and Social Studies. I lived and taught in South Carolina for a few years after I graduated from college. I moved back to Ohio to be closer to family again in 2014 and taught in Marion for several years. This year starts my sixth year of teaching!
In my free time I love to spend time with friends and family, work on projects around my house, watch the Cleveland Cavaliers, and see movies. I love to read many different types of books. Some of my favorite middle school books include Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, all of the "Harry Potter" books, and Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. I love the ocean, country music, and my cat, Cavie!
When I look back at some of my own school experiences, a lot of memories were made during middle school. Middle school was a time for me, and everyone else, where it's all about figuring out who you are as a person, a student who's developing study habits, and a friend. All of these were important for me, and will be for my students, too. Some of my favorite teachers were my middle school teachers because it was during that time that I realized what my strengths (and weaknesses!) were. If I could offer a piece of advice from who I am today to who I was at 13, it'd be "Keep an open mind to everything that comes your way because sometimes it's what you choose to block out that you might actually be interested in or good at."
